NIH Training Grant Opportunity
The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing has been awarded an NIH Research Service Institutional Training Grant, "Individualized Care for At-Risk Older Adults." Specifically, this training program is designed to prepare post-doctoral trainees with in-depth knowledge of key transition points for at-risk older adults and the critical questions appropriate to the next iteration of research on this population. Research experiences will be with seasoned mentors well-versed in methods appropriate to critical questions in aging and transitional care. If you have any questions about this opportunity, please contact Neville E. Strumpf, PhD, RN, FAAN, Edith Clemmer Steinbright Professor in Gerontology at 215.898.8802 or strumpf@nursing.upenn.edu.

Geriatric Case Studies Now Available from the Hartford Institute and AACN
The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing are pleased to announce a series of free, web-based, interactive geriatric case studies for use in advanced practice nursing education settings. The case studies, which address subjects such as anemia, weight loss, and pain in older adults, are intended to enable faculty to integrate geriatrics into their non-geriatric nurse practitioner programs. They are available at www.hartfordign.org and can be assigned to advanced practice nursing students by faculty as independent tutorials. Each case study includes an interactive question-answer component. Students who complete the program receive a certificate of completion. To access the case studies, go to: www.hartfordign.org/case_study/.

Apply for Faculty Development Institutes Online
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) is now accepting online applications for the upcoming Faculty Development Institutes offered through the Foundation-funded Geriatric Nursing Education Consortium (GNEC). GNEC is an innovative national initiative to enhance geriatric content in senior-level baccalaureate courses. Administered by AACN, this program provides nursing educators with the skills, knowledge and resources needed to ensure that the "best geriatric practices" are imbedded in baccalaureate curricula and subsequently in the clinical care provided by newly educated nurses. Using a "train-the-trainer" approach, nurse faculty attending the GNEC institutes are expected to serve as leaders and mentors by sharing their new expertise with colleagues. Institutes are scheduled for February 27-29, 2008, in San Antonio, TX, and October 8-10, 2008, in St. Louis, MO. To apply, visit: www.aacn.nche.edu/Education/Hartford/gnec.htm.
