Nominations Needed for New Project: Establishing a National Framework for Geriatric Home Care
Of the 7.2 million individuals who received home health services in 2000, 69 percent were over 65. This proportion will increase as the impending "age boom" swells the ranks of the "oldest old." Despite the increasing demand for services, there is no overarching framework to promote consistent national practice guidelines for the provision of high quality home healthcare for an aging population.
The Center for Home Care Policy and Research of the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) is pleased to announce the launch of a project, Establishing a National Framework for Geriatric Home Care. The aims of this 16-month project are to:
Achieve national consensus on a framework for industry-wide geriatric goals, guidelines and priority improvement areas.
Recommend evidence-based strategies for improving geriatric practice.
Raise national awareness about the importance of a framework for improving home care for older persons.
To aid in the development of this framework, the project is soliciting nominations for three Regional Advisory Committees (West, Midwest, and East) and candidate geriatric practices that are relevant to home care.
The Regional Committees will inform project operations, provide vital insights, and make recommendations about the areas of practice improvement that are most actionable and would most benefit older home care patients. Nominations are requested by August 31st, 2007.
Candidate practices will be geriatric home care practices or geriatric practices from other settings that could be translated to home care, and they will be reviewed for inclusion in the framework or supporting documents. Submissions are requested by September 10th, 2007.

The project is supported by a grant from the John A. Hartford Foundation.
