1. Regional Networks Building Geriatric Nursing Capacity

The Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity (BAGNC) Scholars and Fellows Awards Program enjoys a growing number of alumni. These emerging geriatric nursing leaders are located across the country and represent a significant source of support for building capacity in geriatric nursing in their geographic regions.

In partnership with the American Academy of Nursing Coordinating Center, volunteer alumni launched BAGNC events at all four regional nursing research meetings this spring. The first goal is to establish a regional network of collegial support for BAGNC alumni and other geriatric nurses in that region.

All four groups conducted various activities to introduce the BAGNC network to regional nursing research meeting attendees. They also established a base contact list and began planning events for the future. Look for updates in future issues of New Directions. If you are interested in who is your regional network contact and would like information on future events, please refer to the following information:

Try This! Assessment Series: Fall Risk Assessment: Hendrich II Scale
Falls among older adults tend to occur because of multiple causes, such as illness and medications. Fall risk assessment and post-fall assessment, two interrelated and distinct approaches to fall evaluation, are useful guidelines for practitioners. This issue of Try This! presents a useful tool that is brief and can be used for risk and prevention screening and post-fall assessment. The publication can be found at: http://www.hartfordign.org/publications/trythis/issue08.pdf.
