The American Academy of Nursing (AAN)

Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity (BAGNC)

The BAGNC builds capacity by:

1) awarding highly competitive scholarships and fellowships;

2) producing an annual Leadership Conference designed for academic geriatric nursing; and

3) facilitating communication and collaboration among the nine Centers of Geriatric Nursing Excellence and other HGNI programs.

All of these efforts are designed to promote leadership, research, and best practice models that foster geriatric excellence throughout the nursing profession.

Geropsychiatric Nursing Collaborative

The AAN also coordinates the Geropsychiatric Nursing Collaborative (GPNC) with the Centers of Geriatric Nursing Excellence at the Universities of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Iowa, and Pennsylvania. The goal of the GPNC is to improve the quality of mental health care provided to older adults by enhancing the knowledge and skills of nurses by identifying and disseminating core competency enhancements and curricular materials.
